This week’s episode of Gotham was action-packed, and the Nathaniel Barnes storyline finally paid some dangerous dividends. He may not be Bane, but he proved his worth to the plot when he executed his first victim tonight.

However, the victim wasn’t who you’d expect. Instead of killing one of the good guys that was trying to stop him, Barnes turned his axe on Katherine.

A few minutes prior, Katherine told Jim she wasn’t the head of the Court of Owls, and he was a fool to think that. Then, Barnes attacked the precinct. Katherine thought that he was coming to save her.

As Barnes is tearing the place apart, trying to judge Jim and the others, Katherine orders him to get her out of there. She tells him to, “Stop this nonsense.”

He must have thought she was looking down on his noble plan, as he proved that what he was doing was important. He immediately cut off her head, and proceeded with his plan.

The Court of Owls didn’t lose their leader, as Katherine made clear, but the organization did lose the face that fans Gotham recognized.
