One of the big surprises at the end of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the death of Superman.
That plotline is being carried into Justice League, and will play a big part in the formation of the team, hitting Batman especially hard.

During an on-set visit via ComicBook.com’s Brandon Davis, producers Deborah Snyder and Charles Roven were asked about Superman’s status in Justice League.
“Well obviously Superman is part of the Justice League,” Snyder assured reporters. “I mean, you know where we ended up with them. And there wouldn’t be a Justice League without Superman, but I think his way back to us … You know, I don’t really want to spoil that. But he will appear. He’ll get there.”
The producers were then asked about the theme of the film, and whether it had more to do with the weight of being a hero.
“No, I think it’s about the purpose of being a hero. And I think that Superman’s death really did make such a strong effect on Batman, and I think he really regains faith in humanity and everything that’s good,” Snyder replied. “Because here’s this alien that just gave his life, for us. And I think it really changes who Batman is. And he also feels a responsibility to honor him because he didn’t feel like he did it when they were living. So I think you are seeing the elevation of these heroes in this one.”
Roven added that the same effect can be seen in Wonder Woman.
“And what Superman did didn’t just motivate Bruce, although it was a big catalyst for him, but it also was sort of this big motivation for Diana, too,” he said. “Which you get a sense of at the end of BvS.”
The producers were steadfast in not offering any clues as to how Superman gets back to the land of the living, but ultimately he will get there, and the world might look a bit different when he does.
