Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today released the trailer for Injustice 2, the sequel to the popular NetherRealm Studios developed DC Comics fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us. Along with the trailer, the press release confirmed three new playable characters coming to the series, Supergirl (who was one of our top five choices to join the sequel), Gorilla Grodd, and Atrocitus.

Fans should know Supergirl as the Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin. Judging by the trailer, her relationship with Kal-El isn’t great. It’s important to remember that Injustice takes place on an alternate Earth where Superman became the High Councilor, a global despot. Kara is likely pretty disappointed in her cousin.
Atrocitus is a less mainstream character from the DC Universe, but a fan favorite nonetheless. Atrocitus is the leader of the Red Lantern Corps, which represents rage in the emotional spectrum. The plot synopsis provided by the press release teases a galactic threat coming to Earth, which may explain how Atrocitus becomes involved. We expect Atrocitus will be a vicious opponent who likes to get up close in personal in the game.
Gorilla Grodd is the psychic primate who often challenges The Flash. Grodd is typically a villain, but perhaps the global threat from outer space will give him reason enough to ally himself with Batman and his allies. Or maybe he’ll see this as an opportunity to let the humans be wiped out so that gorillas may take their rightful place as the dominant species. Possibly both. His playstyle will probably mix brutish strength with psychic special attacks.
Injustice 2 will release for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017.
