Here’s How Gal Gadot Reshot ‘Justice League’ Whilst Pregnant

Reshoots on a film are often a necessary component of bringing a film to life, but that isn’t to say they don’t cause a certain amount of complications. One potential complication, for example, would be if a lead actress became pregnant, like in the case of Gal Gadot‘s performance of Wonder Woman in the Justice League reshoots. Luckily, technology saved the day when trying to make the actress appear physically similar to her appearance in scenes from earlier this year.

The actress revealed to Rolling Stone, “We cut open the costume and had this green screen on my stomach. It was funny as hell – Wonder Woman with a bump.”

Considering how closely film fans follow the development of anticipated films, whether it be Justice League or Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, fans initially react negatively to the concept of reshoots, assuming that there were problems with what has already been shot.

In terms of Justice League, what complicates matters is that the original director, Zack Snyder, stepped away from the project due to a family tragedy, with director Joss Whedon stepping in to take over.

Gadot attempted to assuage fans’ fears that Whedon’s involvement would completely alter the original film, explaining, “Look. Joss, to my understanding, was Zack’s choice to finish the movie. And the tone can’t be completely different because the movie was already shot. Joss is just fine-tuning.”

The Wonder Woman star was lucky that she not only had such an integral role in the film and that her schedule was clear to participate in the reshoots, as other actors aren’t always as lucky.

Recently, it was revealed that Michael K. Williams had been completely cut from the Han Solo spinoff film due to his lack of availability for the reshoots. Ron Howard took over filming the project in the home stretch to course correct the project from previous directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who had reportedly steered the film down a more comedic path.

Justice League will be in theaters on November 17, 2017.
