It’s true: fan favorite artist Alex Ross was indeed the inspiration for the Justice League movie poster released at Comic-Con International: San Diego.

Clay Enos, the photographer who took the shots for the poster, confirmed his inspiration in a post on Vero.
“I first saw this painting as part of the Ayman Hariri’s Impossible Collection and it inspired me to shoot our gang in the same style,” Enos said, referring to Ross’s painting of the Justice League for the 2005 Justice comic book series seen below and to the DC Comics collection of a billionaire. “I used this exact image as my reference for what became the latest JL poster. I simply had the idea and took the initiative to pay homage to Alex Ross by making a few quick portraits in that distinctive light. I’m so glad the WB marketing team ran with them. I love it!”
Ross is an Eisner-award winning artist known for his distinctive statuesque painting of superheroes. He’s primarily known for working on covers but has done interior artwork for fan-favorite miniseries such as DC Comics’ Kingdom Come and Marvel’ Marvels. Ross achieves a level of photorealism in his work by photographing models posed in costumes similar to the heroes he is recreating.
