Sunday’s prestigious award show recognized the film’s excellence in the Best Makeup category. And now they might be adding another Oscar winner to the fold for the second film in the franchise.
AND THE WINNER IS: David Ayer Responds to Suicide Squad Oscars Win
Actor and director Mel Gibson attended the ceremonies in support of his nominated film Hacksaw Ridge, starring the former Amazing Spider-Man Andrew Garfield.
Speaking on the red carpet with Entertainment Tonight, Gibson was asked point blank if he will direct the Oscar Award-winning Suicide Squad‘s sequel.
“I don’t know,” Gibson said. “I just met some guys about story points. It’s not a done deal or anything, but it’s just fun to shoot the bull, you know, when it comes to stories. I love doing it.”
So he didn’t confirm that the talks were proceeding, but he did confirm that he has given input on the direction the sequel film should take.
Gibson added, “If we can elevate any kind of concept, it’s good.”
ET’s Kevin Frazier prodded him some more. “So, you’re ready. If it happens, you’re ready.”
But Gibson deflected, responding simply with, “We’ll see.”
Gibson’s career has seen a resurgence lately after he was arrested for a DUI and made anti-Semitic remarks in 2006.
Maybe the David Ayer ensemble film’s new golden statue might persuade him to come on board for the next film.
