Right now, DC Entertainment may be busy with Wonder Woman‘s impending premiere, but the studio has plenty of work going on behind-the-scenes still. Down in Australia, work recently began on Aquaman as director James Wan kicked off production on the feature. Jason Momoa will reprise his role as Arthur Curry in the film while Amber Heard tags back in as Mera. The film features an all-star cast, and Nicole Kidman just landed on the Gold Coast to film her bit in the film. Now, the Aussie actress is opening up about her role as Aquaman‘s mother, and Kidman is clearly excited to bring Atlanna to life.

In a chat with Deadline, Kidman was asked about her upcoming projects, and the actress admitted she had been asked to play Aquaman‘s mother in the DC film. The actress said she has been wanting to work with Wan for some time, and she was more than happy to sign onto the film when her friend asked.

“Well, James Wan is Australian, and he’s a friend of mine. I think he’s going to make an amazing movie. We’ve always circled each other, so when he came to me, I was like, ‘James, I’ll do anything for you.’”

Continuing, Kidman then gave fans a hint about her role as Atlanna. “When he said ‘female warrior from the sea’ who wears mother of pearl, I went, ‘Yes. Female warrior from the sea. Me like.’”

If you are not familiar with Aquaman’s mother in the comics, then you better start catching up now. Created in May 1959, Atlanna debuted in Adventure Comics #260 and displayed her awesome powers to diehard comics fans. Originally, Atlanna left her home of Atlantis during a travel abroad trip, but she washed up on shore after getting caught in a hurricane. A lighthouse keeper named Tom Curry found Atlanna, and he nursed her back to health. Atlanna fell in love with the human, and the two had a son named Arthur. The queen’s origins have been played around with over the years, but Atlanna is always known for her strong connection with the sea. Sadly, most of Atlanna’s backstories see her die from an illness after giving birth, but comics are comics; It never takes too long from DC to create a loophole which can bring the heroine back.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

Justice League is directed by Zack Snyder, from a screenplay by Chris Terrio, and features an ensemble cast that includes Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Ciarán Hinds (Steppenwolf), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth), J.K. Simmons (Commissioner Gordon), Amber Heard (Mera), Kiersey Clemons (Iris West) and Jesse Eisenberg (Lex Luthor).

The DCEU continues when Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June 2, 2017, followed by Justice League on November 17, 2017; Aquaman on July 27, 2018; Shazam on April 5, 2019; Justice League 2 on June 14, 2019; Cyborg on April 3, 2020; and Green Lantern Corps on July 24, 2020. The Flash, The Batman, Dark Universe and Man of Steel 2 are currently without a release dates.
