An image posted on his Instagram account showed 74 boxes pinned to a corkboard — of which 71 are still covered with question marks.

So far the three spots that are cast have been claimed by Zachary Levi is as the titular character in the DC Film. The news of his casting was released in October and confirmed, again on Instagram by Sandberg. Levi is best known to fans for playing the lead role in NBC’s comedic spy drama Chuck. He is also a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, having played Fandral in Thor: The Dark World.

Just a few weeks later, it was reported that the childhood alter ego of Shazam was cast. Asher Angel was announced as the actor to play young Billy Batson in the film. Angel is currently a star of the Disney Channel series Andi Mack.

In the comics, Batson is a young orphan who discovers an ancient wizard that endows him with the powers of ancient heroes and gods. Now blessed with all the best of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achiles, Mercury he can take the form of the mystical hero known as “Shazam.”

Earlier this week, Jack Dylan Grazer was reported to be joining the film as Freddy Freeman. The role is, essentially, the “best friend” of Batson and “the only person who knows the truth” about Billy’s adult alter-ego.

If the film stays true to the comics, Freddy is severely injured due to a fight between Shazam and Captain Nazi, causing Billy to transfer some of his powers to the young boy. Freddy then becomes the hero known as Shazam Jr., and is taken into Billy’s foster family.

As for those last 71 spots, fans will be left to monitor the big board.
