At the debut of the new DC Entertainment-oriented leg of the Warner Bros Studio Tour in Burbank, CA, sitting amongst props used by Jared Leto’s Joker, was a little badge. The Suicide Squad prop seemed somewhat out of place amongst the other items (a gun, playing cards, etc), until further inspection.

The badge is for JTF Bravo Security Forces. For those less military/law enforcement inclined, that’s Joint Task Force – and the Squad’s official “on the books” name is Task Force X.
Under the logo for the badge is where things get real interesting, though, as a Bible verse is present: “Acts 26.18.”
That refers to the Acts of the Apostles, chapter 26, verse 18. From the New International Version:
“to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.”
That certainly reads like something that could be the Suicide Squad’s mission statement. The team is a group of bad guys, after all, meant to do something good, and positive to make the world (and their lives) better.
There could also be a deeper meaning here – having a Bible verse is curious for a black ops unit, no matter how “cute” it might be. Could it be something protective? And if so, from whom?
We’ll find out when Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016. Directed by David Ayer, the DC Universe story brings together several villains including Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and Will Smith as Deadshot, as they unite to complete a mission that may well end in their untimely demises… hence the name.
