A week ago, The CW released a new trailer for the second season of Supergirl, and it featured plenty of new footage of former Teen Wolf star Tyler Hoechlin as Superman and his mild-mannered alter-ego, Clark Kent. At one point in the trailer, after the Man of Steel gives a wink, a father ushers his wife and child away from the latest incident in National City and says, “We’re moving back to Gotham.”

Once people heard the reference to Batman’s home city, they began to wonder if The Dark Knight could eventually make an appearance on the show. Before you dismiss such a thought, keep in mind, Superman was relegated to being just a shadowy/blurry computer-generated figure in the first season of Supergirl, and now, he’s being played by a living, breathing actor. The same could happen for Batman.

TV Line asked executive producer Ali Adler about the possibility of Batman dropping by National City. “I feel like we have our hands full with the crossover we’re shooting right now,” Adler said, referring to the Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow crossover event. “I think people will be satisfied with how much crossover they’re getting this season.” Adler added, “We have this beautiful history with DC, and I like that we get to borrow from this amazing, wonderful canon that we have.”

And by the way, that wasn’t Supergirl‘s first Gotham easter egg.

THE CW HAS A NEW HERO AND SHE’S BRINGING SUPERMAN WITH HER โ€” When a new threat emerges in National City, Kara/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) teams up with her cousin, Clark Kent/Superman (guest star Tyler Hoechlin), to stop it. Kara is thrilled to have family in town but it leaves Alex (Chyler Leigh) feeling a bit left out. Meanwhile, Hank (David Harewood) and Supergirl are stunned by the pod that came crashing to Earth.

“The Adventures of Supergirl” was directed by Glen Winter, based on a story by Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and a teleplay by Andrew Kreisberg and Jessica Queller.

Distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. International Television Distribution, SUPERGIRL is executive produced by Greg Berlanti (Arrow, The Flash), Ali Adler (The New Normal), Andrew Kreisberg (The Flash, Arrow) and Sarah Schechter (Blindspot, The Mysteries of Laura). Supergirl is based on the characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and appearing in DC Comics, by special arrangement with the Jerry Siegel Family.

Supergirl season two kicks off Monday, October 10 at 8pm on The CW.
