The CW has released the trailer for “Reign”, the upcoming ninth episode and mid-season finale of Supergirl‘s third season.

The trailer shows the rise of Reign, the true identity of Samantha Arias (Odette Annable) that was revealed at the end of Supergirl‘s last episode prior to the four-part Arrowverse crossover, “Crisis on Earth-X”. As you can see in the promo above, the situation is dire with the voiceover stating that the “end of days” is upon them. You can also catch Reign/Samantha living a double life similar to Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) at least in how she conceals her Worldkiller costume.
In the trailer, Reign/Samantha also returns home to daughter, Ruby. When Samantha transitioned to Reign in the Fortress of Sanctuary prior to the crossover she was told that she would forget about Ruby and while that doesn’t seem to be entirely accurate given the clip, something is definitely not right — possibly a clue to the “heartbreaking” part of the story Annable teased for Samantha earlier this year.
“What I think is really special about this storyline is it’s a slow play and you’ll get to see this whole heartbreaking story unforld in a really — they’re taking their time with it, and we have the time to do it,” Annable said. “I think the audience is going to hopefully relate.”
Also seen in the trailer are Mon-El (Chris Wood) and Imra Ardeen (Amy Jackson). With the pair appearing to no longer be under medical supervision at the DEO, maybe we’ll get to see Supergirl get an assist from the Legion of Super-heroes. It probably can’t come a moment too soon: Morgan Edge (Adrian Pasdar) looks like he’s back to causing trouble in National City as well.
The Supergirl midseason finale airs Monday, December 4th at 8/7c on The CW.
