The fight between Kara Danvers/Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) and Samantha Arias/Reign (Odette Annable) seems to be ramping up. But how long could it take before Supergirl‘s latest villain is unmasked?

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Benoist was asked how long she thinks it will take before Kara discovers Sam’s civilian identity. And with Sam set to turn to Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) for help in the upcoming episode “For Good”, it seems like it won’t take long.
“It does seem like it’s only a matter of time,” Benoist revealed. “What I think is the most important is how Sam is going to react, because obviously she has no awareness of what’s happening right now. The entire arc of the season is this identity crisis for every character, so if Kara finds out about Sam, if and when, it’s definitely going to be a part of that journey.”
With that in mind, a pretty logical question is how exactly Kara will respond to the Reign reveal, and if she will be willing to help Samantha on a path to redemption. According to Benoist, while that might be a little complicated (considering the fact that Reign left her in a coma), Kara will hopefully be forgiving.
“That would be difficult,” Benoist continued, “but knowing Supergirl, and how she tends to deal with situations, and how she thinks everyone deserves a second chance, and that you can change and be a better person and a hero, I think she’ll try to help her.”
The possibility of Samantha being redeemed has been tossed around quite a bit, largely thanks to audiences being introduced to her more “human” side first and foremost. Benoist hinted at something similar during a recent set visit, where she seemed to indicate that her backstory will help her be easier to humanize.
“I think Reign is going to surprise people.” Benoist told reporters. “She is pretty spectacular to behold and she definitely has given Supergirl— she will give Supergirl the fight of her life. I think what sets her aside from the villains that we’ve seen– the big bads that we’ve seen up to this point on the show, she has a really surprising backstory that’s quite grounded, that gets you really invested in who she really is fundamentally.”
Either way, it sounds like Supergirl fans won’t have to wait too long to see what’s next for Samantha.
Supergirl airs Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
