Teen Titans: The Judas Contract Teaser Poster Spotted

With the Blu-ray release of Justice League Dark looming, attention is already turning to future DC animation films. There’s a Batman/Harley Quinn movie in development, reportedly set in the world of the popular Arkham video game franchise, but before that, Teen Titans: The Judas Contract is finally going to get made.

An adaptation of arguably the most popular and polarizing storyline in the team’s history, The Judas Contract took then-new Marv Wolfman/George Perez creations Terra, Jericho, and Deathstroke, and created a web of intrigue and betrayal that would define their run and cement Deathstroke as one of the most ruthless villains in the DC Universe.

The movie has been in development for years, before producers and the studio started referring to it as having been scrapped.

Now, not only is it back on, but there’s apparently a poster out there, which you can see below courtesy

“There’s always plans to turn Judas Contract into one of the animated movies. Tom DeSanto and I wrote a screenplay for it and at that point Warners decided that Titans really wasn’t big or well known enough for that sort of expense,” Wolfman said shortly after the project was abandoned. “They primarily center on characters that are in big movies and are well known. I was glad that the movie was killed, not so much because I didn’t want to have a Titans film, but I never thought that the Judas Contract should be the first Titans film. I saw it as a trilogy. I saw the first involving Deathstroke and the HIVE, the second one as the Terror storyline, and the third one using Brother Blood and Trigon, with Trigon making guest appearances in the other movies as he’s being lured into our dimension. For me, the Judas Contract is about having a strange new character enter a group that you’re very familiar with…and then she turns into a traitor. But, if you don’t know who the original group is, I think it has less impact. I would have preferred it as the second of a Titans trilogy.”

There’s no word on whether Warner Bros. Animation will still use Wolfman and DeSanto’s screenplay. Wolfman, in addition to being a figure who looms huge in the comics world, is well-known in animation circles, having written for cartoons stretching back as far as 1980.

Of course, with Deathstroke being a key part of The Judas Contract, it makes sense that DC would want to find a way to bring attention to one of their most acclaimed and best-selling stories featuring the character who will menace Ben Affleck in The Batman.

Both Deathstroke and HIVE have loomed large on Arrow, The CW’s veteran superhero show, which celebrated its hundredth episode this week (including a guest appearance by Deathstroke).

One of Wolfman’s long-running Teen Titans characters, Raven, has her first solo comic series — written by Wolfman — currently on the stands.

There is no official date yet on the Teen Titans: the Judas Contract movie, nor are there any specific casting or creative answers available. Keep your eyes peeled here as information is revealed.
