It’s been a busy few days for the DC Extended Universe. Not only did news of a Joker standalone go public this week, but reports about a Harley Quinn & Joker spin-off also hit the Internet. Earlier tonight, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed Warner Bros. is working on a spin-off starring Harley Quinn and the Joker. The article went over the new film’s creative team, but one line in particular caught the interest of fans.
According to an inside source, Warner Bros. wants to release Suicide Squad 2 as soon as possible. The Hollywood Reporter agrees the expedited release will free up the studio ahead of all its slated projects, so the rush does make sense.
After all, it wasn’t too long ago that reports surfaced about the Suicide Squad sequel’s production time line. The film’s script is being penned right now, and evidence suggests Suicide Squad 2 will undergo filming sometime during 2018. Joel Kinnaman, the actor behind Rick Flag, told The Hollywood Reporter not too long ago that he’s eager to get back to work.
“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it,” the actor revealed.
Warner Bros. seems eager to get things moving with Suicide Squad 2, but there is a lot the sequel must get in order before production can begin. Right now, the film has no director attached to it despite a lengthy front-runner list. Mel Gibson has been attached to Suicide Squad 2, but reports have suggested the filmmaker has since walked away from the project. Other directors like Guy Ritchie have signaled their interest in Suicide Squad 2, but there has been no official confirmation of a director at this point.
