While Jesse Eisenberg is reportedly still awaiting word on whether Lex Luthor will appear in the upcoming Justice League films, fans are already wondering whether Eisenberg and Warner Bros. may have managed to sneak a Suicide Squad cameo past them all this time.
At the end of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Lex finds himself imprisoned at Belle Reve — that’s the same prison where the Suicide Squad will be found at the start of their movie.
This has resurrected a question about whether we might see Eisenberg’s Luthor in the film — one fans had wondered more or less as soon as they thought about the idea that he’d be the villain one movie and then a second movie would center on villains…but that had gone away after he wasn’t seen in the early trailers.
Other than the Belle Reve connection, there’s no immediate reason to suspect we’ll see Lex. Certainly, even that could be a coincidence. Iron Heights Prison is being used on TV, and Stryker’s Island isn’t a prison but just an abandoned island in the context of the movies, so there’s a relatively small number of DC prisons left to put Luthor away in.
We’ll likely find out more soon…
It feels good to be bad…Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
