Following the success of Wonder Woman, there was little doubt the film would spawn a sequel. Patty Jenkins recently confirmed she would return to direct and write the follow-up, and she’s teasing fans about why they can expect.

During a recent interview with the Toronto Sun, Jenkins was asked about her return to Wonder Woman 2. The director said she’s very excited to see the heroine grow, and Diana will hit her maturity when she suits up in America.
“I’m excited for her to come to America and become the Wonder Woman we are all familiar with from having grown up around her as an American superhero,” Jenkins teased.
“I’d like to bring her a little farther along into the future and have a fun, exciting storyline that is its own thing,” she continued. “Wonder Woman 1 is so much about her becoming the person she is. I can’t wait to spring forward with who she is and have another great standalone superhero film.”
Of course, Jenkins is being very tight-lipped about the specifics of Wonder Woman 2. The film is currently in development as its script gets written. Jenkins is teaming up with DC Films’ Geoff Johns and screenwriter Dave Callaham on the story.
Reports regarding the sequel’s outline have popped up already, and fans are eyeing the rumors with equal parts excitement and skepticism. Earlier this year, Screen Rant said a source informed them that Wonder Woman 2 will be another historical adventure. The report suggested the sequel will take place towards the end of the Cold War, so Diana may find herself mediating between the U.S. and USSR as the threat of nuclear annihilation lies over the two world powers.
