Wonder Woman is the highest-grossing superhero origin film to-date, but Gal Gadot can’t escape questions about the role her breasts played in the film. The no-nonsense actress has shut down more than a few sexist questions about her bust, and the actress knocked naysayers yet again during a recent interview.

Gadot sat down to chat with Rolling Stone and talk about her meteoric rise as Wonder Woman. It was there the actress gave a rather memorable quote about her character’s bust, and fans are rallying behind her acerbic wit.
When prompted about absurd debates regarding Wonder Woman’s bust, Gadot said, “I told [critics], ‘Listen, if you want to be for real, then the Amazons, they had only one boob. Exactly one boob. So what are you talking about here? Me having small boobs and small ass? That will make all the difference.”
Gadot does make a good point. If you trace back the mythology of the Amazons, you will find the Greeks believed the women were daughters of Ares and Harmonia. The name Amazon is derived from the Greek word referring to a single breast. The title was meant to indicate the Amazons had a singular bust, but Greco artwork consistently painted the warriors a full bust. If Wonder Woman were truly held to Greek standards, Diana Prince would need to look very different.
Of course, Wonder Woman is not based fully on Greek mythology, and Gadot’s comment was not meant to suggest the heroine should have uneven breasts. The actress used her comment to illustrate why Wonder Woman’s live-action outing would not be the same as her comic ventures or even mythological roots. While most fans don’t care about the heroine’s cleavage, there were some who felt Wonder Woman’s exposed skin hindered her ability to fend off villains.
However, Gadot just doesn’t buy into that train of thought.
“It’s the ultimate sexism to say because she has big breasts and a costume on, that is what you think represents her and who she is,” the actress preached. “Women do have breasts and women can defend themselves and fight back. Wonder Woman is about telling the truth.”
Wonder Woman is still showing in theaters, with a special one-day return to IMAX on Friday.
