Recently, Jenkins sat down with Entertainment Tonight ahead of Wonder Woman‘s home video release. It was during her interview that Jenkins addressed the film’s critical and commercial success by calling herself honored.
“It’s wonderful, it’s what you hope for,” the director said.
“You work so hard on [films] for so long, everybody that makes them hopes for success in every way they can possibly get it. So it’s felt very lucky and incredible to get both.”
If you are not familiar with the extent of Wonder Woman‘s success, then you have a bit to catch up on. After more than two months, the DCEU flick hit another box office milestone this month. Wonder Woman passed $800 million at the worldwide box office last weekend, and its domestic box office hit a staggering $404 million.
When you look at the numbers, it is impossible to overlook the might of Wonder Woman‘s stats. The movie is the DCEU’s highest-grossing feature and is the fifth highest-grossing film of 2017. The movie overtook Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man recently to become the highest-grossing superhero origin movie of all-time, and Wonder Woman fans are reveling in the film’s wholly deserved praise.
As for Jenkins, the director is still in talks to oversee the sequel to Wonder Woman. During her chat with Entertainment Tonight, she admitted she’s been excited to see the reaction audiences have had to Wonder Woman.
“It’s actually been interesting seeing peoples’ reactions to this,” Jenkins revealed. “Particularly women coming up and saying, ‘That action scene was made for me! I don’t even like action movies!’”
“There is something about this movie that felt like it was speaking to [women] more than they had seen before because of the point of view being slightly different. I think that has been remarkable.”
