We've been waiting a pretty good while for Sega's Sonic Mania, the company's throwback to the iconic hero's old-school platforming adventures. It was originally supposed to be out earlier this year, but was hit with delays that have left fans wondering just when we would see the Blue Wonder again.

Wonder no more, as Sega has officially confirmed the game's release date, and revealed a new trailer that's sure to get you excited for the speedster's latest adventure. The company has confirmed that the game will release on August 15th for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC and Nintendo Switch – and nope, it shouldn't be delayed again.

The game was put into development by Christian Whitehead, who previously worked on the Sonic CD revival for PC, mobile and consoles, as well as Headcannon and PagodaWest, working alongside Sega. "Sonic Mania celebrates the best of Classic Sonic, pushing the envelope forward with stunning 60 FPS gameplay and pixel-perfect physics. Play as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles as you race through all-new Zones and fully re-imagined classics, each filled with exciting surprises and powerful bosses. Harness Sonic's new drop dash, Tails' flight, and Knuckles' climbing abilities to overcome the evil Dr. Eggman's robots. Discover a myriad of never-before-seen hidden paths and secrets. Welcome to the next level for the world's fastest blue hedgehog!" the company's game description reads.

Sega also made note that pre-orders for the collector's edition of the game, which comes with a limited edition Sega Genesis cartridge mock-up, a gold ring and a statue of Sonic atop a Sega Genesis, can be pre-ordered here – but they're going to go very quickly, even faster than Sonic himself! Those editions are going for $69.99, but if you're strapped for cash, you can just pre-order the game itself for $19.99.

The new trailer is below, which features all new gameplay footage from Mania, as well as sketch and color animation, which you can expect to be finished once the final game rolls around in just a few months. It'll be nice to celebrate Sonic over the course of the summer season, leading into his big release of Sonic Forces later this year.

Plus we can play a Sonic game at launch on a Nintendo system. Who thought we would ever see that?
