Star Wars Battlefront II Dishes Story Details In A Fresh Footage Packed Behind-The-Scenes

As you’ve likely already heard, Disney is holding its D23 Expo this weekend (July 14 – 16), and this year’s event it definitely shaping up to be a big one. The show has played host to plenty of news about huge Disney movies and TV shows, but video games aren’t being excluded from the excitement. This year D23 plays host to Level Up! The Walt Disney Company’s Video Game Showcase, which will feature trailers and information for some hugely anticipated games.

Star Wars Battlefront II is far and away the biggest Disney-related game coming out this year, and, unsurprisingly, it was the major focus of the company’s D23 livestream. Publisher EA showed off Battlefront II‘s multiplayer component at E3 2017, but at D23 they once again focused on the single-player campaign with a story-heavy behind-the-scenes video. Earlier this week, the game’s star Janina Gavankar teased the D23 show would reveal more about Inferno Squad, the Imperial special forces unit that will be the focus of Battlefront II‘s single-player campaign, and sure enough, the new featurette delivered. You can check it out for yourself, above.

The most interesting information revealed in the video concerns the three core members of Inferno Squad. Iden Versio, played by Janina Gavankar (True Blood, Halo 5: Guardians) grew up on a planet called Vardos, and is a true-blue Imperial, as she was raised in a strict military training camp. Gideon Hask, played by Paul Blackthorne (Arrow) is the team’s moral compass, but in his case, that compass always points back to the Empire. Finally, Del Meeko, as played by TJ Ramini (24, Prison Break) is the team’s rogue, who might have a bit of a thing for Iden.

New storyline details aside, the video is packed with new footage. We see Iden Versio battling her way through a ship with her loyal droid by her side, flying through the debris of the destroyed Death Star, and chatting with her fellow Inferno Squadmates. We also get plenty of fun shots of the motion capture process. No doubt, this looks like a true current gen triple-A Star Wars experience.

EA revealed Star Wars Battlefront II earlier this year. Unlike its 2015 predecessor, which focused almost entirely on online multiplayer, Battlefront II will have a fully-developed single-player campaign, in which you play from the perspective of the Empire’s elite Inferno Squad. The game’s campaign is the work of new studio Motive, which is headed by former Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond, and the multiplayer is the work of DICE (Battlefield series) and Criterion (Burnout, Need for Speed).

Star Wars Battlefront II will be holding an open beta on October 6, and folks that pre-order will get two-day early access. The full game launches on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on November 17. You can check out WWG’s latest coverage of Battlefront II here.
