The Pokemon Company released an English version of the Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon trailer that appeared last night. While we found out new details about some of the strange characters and areas that appeared in earlier trailers, the big news is that we’re getting a third new Ultra Beast in the upcoming games.
For those unfamiliar with recent Pokemon lore, the Ultra Beasts are powerful extradimensional Pokemon that live inside the Ultra Space. At first, it was unclear whether Ultra Beasts were actually Pokemon, but their inclusion in the PokeDex confirmed that these strange creatures were similar to the less threatening Pokemon seen throughout the Alola Region.
So, what is this new Pokemon and what role will it have in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon?
UB Adhesive
The new Pokemon is codenamed UB Adhesive, a name presumably given to it by the UB Task Force, which monitors Ultra Beast activity in the Alola Region. UB Adhesive appears to be a mechanical/alien-like Pokemon with a robot-esque head, but with an organic tail and an undersized body. UB Adhesive is a pure Poison-type Pokemon, and it looks like players encounter it relatively early into their journey.
UB Adhesive joins UB Burst and UB Assembly as the three new Pokemon in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. While some players might debate whether Ultra Beasts count as “real” Pokemon, the fact that the Pokemon franchise included new creatures for players to battle and catch is unprecedented for the 20-year-old franchise.
New Details About UB Burst and UB Assembly
Speaking of UB Burst and UB Assembly, we learned new information about both Pokemon. UB Burst is a Fire/Ghost dual-type Pokemon, and has its very own signature move. The hilariously named “Mind Blown” attack causes UB Burst to actually throw its gumball-shaped head at opponents, doing 50-percent damage to itself in the process.
UB Assembly was revealed as a Rock/Steel dual-type, and appears to be made up of hundred of bricks, each with their very own eye. UB Assembly doesn’t appear to have a signature move, but it does haveย the Beast Boost ability shared by all Ultra Beasts.
Enter Ultra Megalopolis
Players will also get to enter Ultra Space to battle Ultra Beasts in their home turf. From what we saw, we’ll get to visit Nihilego, Xurkitree,ย and Buzzwole’s Ultra Spaces.ย A previous trailer strongly hinted that Kartana’s Ultra Space will also be available in the upcoming game.ย
What’s more, players will get to visit a city built inside Ultra Space. Ultra Megalopolis apparently is a world where Necrozma (the villainous Legendary Pokemon at the heart of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon) stole its light. Ultra Megalopolis looks like a strange and futuristic place filled with people wearing space suits.
There’s also a new team in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon that appears to be monitoring Necrozma’s movements throughout the Alola Region. The Ultra Recon Squad is a group of four travelers from Ultra Megalopolis that appear in the Alola Region, and at some point battle the player with Ultra Beasts.
We’ll discover more of their motives when Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon comes out in November!
