One of the latest additions to a slew of pre-E3 video game trailers, the high-flying, aircraft-fighting game Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown now has a new trailer to give some glimpses into the missions and characters that players will encounter during their playthrough.
While the game’s trailer doesn’t actually show much in the way of player-controlled gameplay, the cinematic scenes look pretty fantastic being built with Unreal Engine 4, even if they are somewhat weighed down by the lofty questions being asked by the characters shown in the trailer. After all, most people who are looking to play Ace Combat 7 are more than likely looking to shoot down some aircraft and wage war from above, so as long as that part can hold up, issues with dialogue and story may not stand out quite as much.

Several scenes can be seen in the trailer that show different settings players can expect to be dog-fighting above. Vast deserts, seemingly endless bodies of water, and sprawling cities are just a few of the areas that will be seen from high above. While some of the Ace Combat games change their setting back and forth between being in the real world and being set in an alternate universe known as Strangereal, this latest installation in the series will return to the near-Earth universe that allows developer Project Aces and publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment to give the game an altered history and other similar changes.
Originally set to be released in 2017, the game was pushed back in order to achieve the proper vision for the game. A letter from franchise director Kazutoki Kono in May apologized for the delay but said it was imperative if the team hoped to deliver the best final product that they could.
For now, there’s no release date set for the final version of Ace Combat 7. There’s no word as to what Ace Combat 7 content will for sure be playable during E3, but with the trailer being released already, there will likely be some additional news released during the E3 conferences.
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown is expected to be released in 2018 for the Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 with unique virtual reality missions exclusive to the PS4.
