Earlier this week, Attack on Titan 2 was officially confirmed to be released on the Nintendo Switch in addition to the previously announced consoles. Unfortunately for fans of the hit anime/manga series, it originally looked to be that the sequel was slated for a Japan release only. Amid the confusion and slight disappointment, Koei Techmo clarified their earlier announcement with a confirmation of a U.S. and European release.

The sequel to the popular anime-based game was originally announced back in August, but back then there was no confirmation about it coming to Nintendo’s latest platform. With the portability and unique Switch features, the upcoming title has a lot of potential. No word yet if the 3D maneuver gear will utilise the motion control of the joy-con, but it would make an already enjoyable title that much more immersive.

The game itself will center around the events in the anime’s second season, and promises more challenges, more freedom, and visibly enhanced movements than its predecessor:

“The story is based on Season 2 of the anime, and players will be able to immerse themselves into the world of Attack on Titan in greater volume. In addition, the game will include original stories supervised by the series creator Hajime Isayama, allowing players to enjoy untold stories.”

Over 10 available characters from the series will also be playable for fans, in addition to original dialogue inserted into the familiar narrative from season 2. It is possible more characters could be released later on, Tecmo did mention that that number was not a final playable option count.

Attack on Titan 2 will be available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and PC sometime in 2018. Like the Japanese version, the U.S and European release has no concrete details at this time.
