Baldur’s Gate 3 Fans Find A Chaotic Solution For Frustrating Act 1 Issue

Baldur’s Gate 3 might not be a shiny new game anymore, but fans are still uncovering plenty of delightful details. With so many options to choose from, each playthrough is different, and that means surprises are still hiding in Larian’s beloved RPG. Whether it’s what happens to Gale if you don’t save him from the portal or an abandoned storyline for Minthara, Baldur’s Gate 3 goes deep. But that doesn’t mean the game is perfect. Some things, like waiting for that darn gate to open at the Grove, can really slow the pace. But one player found a fun, chaotic solution.

Players spend much of Act 1 going in and out of the Druid’s Grove as they work out what to do about the nearby goblin encampment and the druid’s plan to seal off the area. Alas, the gate to the Grove takes ages to open, really slowing the momentum for players. It’s a minor thing, but that doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating. Apparently, the fix for those long waits at the gate was right in front of us all along. If the gate opens too slowly, why not… destroy the gate?

What Happens If You Destroy the Gate to the Grove in Baldur’s Gate 3

Yes, you read that correctly. As Redditor @SageTegan recently shared in the r/BaldursGate3 Subreddit, you can completely destroy the gate to the Grove. And apparently, that doesn’t even cause the entire Tiefling army to come after you (been there, done that).

According to this player, the gate doesn’t just take damage during the goblin’s attempted siege at the Grove. You can damage it any time you like, even to the point of fully destroying it. And apparently, destroying the Grove’s defenses doesn’t actually cause serious harm to your playthrough. It just makes it a bit easier for you and your companions to go in and out of the Grove.

@SageTegan doesn’t offer any insight into how they destroyed the gate. Probably any damage would work, but when I give this a try, I’m definitely opting for a full “burn it all down” approach. And if you’re curious whether a gate-less siege looks any different, the answer is… yes, yes it does.

Though the news that you can destroy the gate comes as a shocking surprise to many, a few other players have tested this sneaky fast-travel hack. And if you destroy the gate before the goblin attack, there will instead be a makeshift barricade in its place. So, the Grove is still defended. Just a bit less frustratingly so. And if you opt to side with Minthara and the goblins, well, that’s one less gate to break down later.

Being able to destroy the gate isn’t necessarily surprising. After all, many of the things in Baldur’s Gate 3 are delightfully easy to destroy. But so many players managing to do it without incurring the wrath of the Druids or Tieflings isn’t what you might expect. Though Zevlor will totally turn on you for picking the wrong dialogue option, destroying his last defenses is apparently just fine.
