Next week Telltale delivers another bloody M-rated Gotham City adventure, as the first episode of Batman: The Enemy Within is set to arrive. Telltale unveiled the new Batman season at SDCC 2017, but they were a bit stingy with gameplay footage. Thankfully, that’s changed, as you can now check out the first 15 minutes of the game courtesy of a new IGN First video.
After a short recap of the first game, we open on Bruce Wayne, who’s doing a little reconnaissance work on a casino owner/arms dealer (there’s a lot of those in Gotham, isn’t there?) Bruce does a little schmoozing with the ladies, but then the Riddler shows up to stir up some trouble. In Telltale’s Gotham, the Riddler has been operating since Thomas Wayne’s days and definitely isn’t the playful character we’re used to. He gives our arms dealer a riddle to solve, and when he doesn’t get the right answer, he starts sawing off fingers. That’s not a great way to improve somebody’s concentration โ why, it’s like the Riddler doesn’t even care if his puzzles are solved!
Of course, Batman eventually shows up to save the day, and we get a look at a typical timing-based Telltale fight scene. At least this time around the action seems a bit more fluid. Eventually Batman gets the better of the Riddler, but, of course, he manages to escape and leaves our hero with a strange puzzle box. Definitely seems like Riddler will be somewhat of a secondary villain in Batman: The Enemy Within โ somebody who sets up the big baddie.
Batman: The Enemy Within hits PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on August 8.
