Capcom Preparing to Bring More Games to Switch After Impressive Street Fighter Sales

It looks like sales of Ultra Street Fighter II were enough to convince Capcom that this Nintendo Switch thing really is going places. Capcom had previously admitted that USF II was a bit of a litmus test for bringing its games to the system. It seems strange that a port of a decades-old game could determine Capcom's plans for Switch support, but there you have it. Wall Street Journal analyst Takashi Mochizuki showed up on Twitter this morning with an encouraging update:

"Capcom: 450K is 1Q figure for Ultra Street Fighter II, above its expectation. Also 'starting to prepare' multiple Switch-version titles." That's pretty great news. Don't get me wrong, I was perfectly happy to see Street Fighter show up on the Switch, but I would have preferred something a little more recent. I'd love to know if and when Capcom plans to bring Monster Hunter XX over for North American Switch owners, or when we can look forward to a Switch version of Street Fighter V.

The more likely scenario, unfortunately, is a bunch of ports of older games. I think we all know that we can expect some Resident Evil IV, Resident Evil Remake, Street Fighter IV, and some of Capcom's smaller titles like Disney Afternoon Collection and Mega Man Legacy Collection. Again, there's nothing wrong with that at all; we'll take all of those games. But I definitely don't want the Switch to be Capcom's go-to console dump for cash-in ports and side-projects. Let's get some new and exciting games coming down the pipeline!

Then again, what do I know? If you look at the Twitter feed of Mochizuki-san's report, you'll see an almost-endless stream of people practically begging for older Resident Evil games and Mega Man. Ah, what the hell, I really want those games too. Let's face it: the Switch is the perfect place for definitive versions of older games on the go, and that's why we love it so much. Just give us Monster Hunter, Capcom, and I'll be a very happy man.
