Cuphead is definitely one of those games that has an old-timey look to it, with a 1930’s cartoon aesthetic that’s hard to take your eyes off of – even as most of the characters you come across in the game attempt to kill you.
But how would the game look on an older television? Well, we’d have to imagine that there are quite a number of hoops to jump through just to get it working on such a TV, especially with its HDMI set-up and the fact that some TV’s just can’t handle the awesomeness of something like, say, Forza Motorsport 7.

But someone actually managed to get the game running on a CRT black and white television, and you can see it in action here. It’s on a brief clip that runs for several seconds on a GIF, but as you can see, it’s pretty amazing.
The game’s side-scrolling backgrounds and everything may still be in black and white, but the motif is surprisingly fitting for the material, making the game somehow look even better with its old-school design.
That said, it’s probably got its limitations, as you can’t make out the obstacles that you can parry off of, since they’re usually marked in pink. But nevertheless, kudos to whoever pulled this off – now we want to try it on an old television, just to see how it comes across.
