We're not trying to be hyperbolic, but even with Ubisoft and Sony's conferences coming later today and this evening, this new Dragon Ball FighterZ gameplay footage might be the best video you see all day. When we heard that Bandai Namco was teaming up with Arc System Works to craft a 2.5D Dragon Ball fighting game, we knew it was going to look good, but we didn't know it would look this good. Check out the direct feed gameplay footage above.

Once again, we don't mean to come across as hyperbolic, but typically we hope for video game adaptations to look at good as the source material. In this case, we're wishing Dragon Ball Super looked as good as this Dragon Ball FighterZ gameplay. The design, render, and animation styles are spot-on for this type of game. This is truly the Dragon Ball fighting game that we've been waiting for since we were kids, taping every episode of Dragon Ball Z from Toonami on VHS and day-dreaming about being a Super Saiyan.

For those of you who haven't heard, Dragon Ball FighterZ is being developed by Arc System Works, which is most recently known for its work on the recent Guilty Gear games. Those games stood out for their aesthetic as well. ASW has this surreal way of creating character models that look like hand-drawn, hand-animated cartoons, when really they're 3D models. It's a brilliant style that worked well for Guilty Gear, and we daresay it's found its perfect application in Dragon Ball FighterZ.

We also get a great look at the 3-on-3 battle system, which makes for fast-paced battles filled with support skills and flashy finishers.

"DRAGON BALL FighterZ gives fans of all skill levels the opportunity to feel like their favorite DRAGON BALL character. Featuring 3 vs. 3 battle mechanics, new and seasoned players are sure to experience the epic scope of DRAGON BALL as they select their three-character team to take into battle. The game also encourages players to train and master more than one fighter and style, delivering richer gameplay and motivation to take down the competition."

In case you missed it, there's a closed beta on the way, so you'll get to play this game long before it comes out. More details on the beta here. Dragon Ball FighterZ is slated to launch on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam early in 2018.
