Fire Pro Wrestling World is the first new entry in the Fire Pro Wrestling series in years. Wrestling fans have always gravitated to the Fire Pro Wrestling games due to their enormous roster of custom characters (some based on real-world wrestlers, some completely fantastical), huge lists of signature wrestling moves that any fans will recognize, and its deep, innovative combat system. Fire Pro Wrestling World brought all of this and more to Steam Early Access yesterday, and the lead designer thinks it’d be a perfect fit on the Nintendo Switch eventually.

In a recent interview with Retronauts, designer Masato Masuda (who’s been working on the Fire Pro Wrestling games since the series’ conception) was asked what other platforms he’d like to bring the game to after the Early Access period concludes. Xbox One and PlayStation 4 seemed like no-brainers, but his answer surprised and delighted us all. “Speaking for me personally,” he said, “I would love to put the game on Switch.”
If the lead designer who’s been with the series since it was on PC Engine and the WonderSwan says that he wants to see the game on the Nintendo Switch, then I’d say there’s a very good chance of that happening. Fan reception has been extremely positive so far on Steam, and Nintendo Switch owners have proven time and time again that they can’t get enough of the retro and 16-bit style games on the system. NeoGeo games have continued to sell incredibly well there, and the rate at which NeoGeo games are releasing on the Switch is over double the rate they came out on the Wii.
If you don’t want to wait for the magical day, though, you can play Fire Pro Wrestling World right now. You can download the Early Access version for $19.99 on Steam, and the system requirements are extremely forgiving. No matter what kind of PC or Windows laptop you may have, there’s a good chance that you can run this game perfectly. Check out the store listing right here.
