For those anticipating big news at E3 related to the next installment in the Halo franchise, there may be some disappointment when June rolls around. In a recent thread on Reddit, the theory that some light would be shed on Halo 6 at the conference was debunked by Halo community manager Brian Jarrard.

"We've said this already but we'll have a little something at E3 but it's not related to the next major entry in the franchise," Jarrard said in reply to a comment that expressed a hopefulness in seeing something related to "the future of the franchise" during June's big conference.

Commenters in the subreddit speculated as to what that "little something" might be, and many hoped to see something related to an anniversary edition of the fan-favorite Halo 3. Jarrard was quick to shoot that down as well, saying that there was no Halo 3 plans in the works.

The hopefulness for a big-name reveal from Microsoft at E3 does have some merit, though, considering the announcements from Microsoft within the past few months. With discussions surrounding Project Scorpio and Microsoft moving up its press conference slot to allow more time to present the games and their stories, the company certainly has a lot on its plate for the next few upcoming months.

With everything they have going on, it's likely best that Microsoft is electing to take a bit more time to get Halo 6 just right. The most recent installment in the franchise, Halo 5: Guardians, was met with some criticism related to the storytelling of the game. Fans wanted to see much more of the iconic Master Chief, and that's not something they got from the game. 343 Industries acknowledged the community's concerns and stated that whatever happens with the next installment in the franchise, it will be more focused on Master Chief.

The response to the community feedback didn't just stop with the protagonist of Halo 6, however. It's also been announced that Halo 6 — and all future FPS titles from 343 Industries, for that matter — will feature split-screen co-op, a key component of the series that was absent from Halo 5.

While there's no chance of Halo 6 being announced, there may still be a chance of spin-off titles from the franchise finding their way onto Microsoft's stage during E3.
