Hollow Knight: Silksong‘s long development time seemingly won’t result in a higher cost to the consumer. The gaming industry is one that leaves its fans waiting years and years for highly anticipated games. GTA 6 will release 13 years after its predecessor, Half-Life 3 is reportedly in the works for real this time and could arrive nearly two decades after its last entry, and The Elder Scrolls VI will come over 15 years after the release of Skyrim. One other game that has remained on the lips of gamers for the better part of a decade is Hollow Knight: Silksong. The 2D Metroidvania platformer is the sequel to an acclaimed indie game that stole the hearts of gamers.

Silksong was announced back in 2019 and was originally envisioned as an expansion to its predecessor, but grew into a full blown sequel. Developed by just a small team, the road to Silksong has been a long one, but not a troubled one. The developers have worked at a steady pace with a smaller team that are focused on quality and even polish. The last year or two of development was largely about polishing the game and Team Cherry even said they could’ve extended development to add more content, but chose to get the game out to people.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Is Just $20, According to GameStop
With that said, Hollow Knight: Silksong will finally release this coming week and the price has leaked online. According to multiple retailers including GameStop, Silksong will cost just $19.99. One might have imagined that it would cost something like $29.99 given the extended development, likely amping up production costs, but the game will cost as much as its predecessor. This is a huge win for fans who have waited a long time to play Silksong, but also makes the game far more accessible. If someone isn’t very familiar with it, but hears about it from word of mouth, they’ll be more likely to buy it due to its lower cost.
On top of that, Silksong will be a day one title on Xbox Game Pass. If you’re an Xbox player, this is a game you’ll at least want to check out. Even if it’s not your cup of tea, it’s hard to imagine it taking up much storage space. The beauty of Game Pass is it gives you the opportunity to try so many games, so I highly recommend giving it a shot. If you’re on other platforms and have $20 to spare, you can’t really go wrong with Silksong.
