The last time we saw the House of the Dead franchise in arcades, it was with Sega's House of the Dead 4, in a big deluxe sized cabinet with machine guns, motion sensing and a whole lot of zombies. We've seen minimal action from the series since then, but it looks like, just like a zombie, Sega is bringing it back from the dead.
As you can see from this official game page, Sega is returning the franchise to the arcade with the forthcoming release of House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn. The game looks to feature a young new hero (sorry, Agent G fans), along with a femme fatale, who find themselves up against a horde of nearly unstoppable zombies, using whatever weapons they can get their hands on.
Like most arcade games these days, Sega looks to be prepping a deluxe sized cabinet for the game, so players can sit inside and literally feel the fear as they blast their way through an armada of opponents, using targeting assists and saving innocent victims before they fall victim to their undead predators.
It's hard to make out specific details about the game, since it's in Japanese. However, it looks like the game will make its debut later this month at Sega's Club Sega location in Tokyo, before eventually rolling out to arcades later this year. There's no word yet on a home release, but this game would probably be difficult to port without some kind of gun controller – although the DualShock 4's motion sensing would make it easy to point and shoot enemies like an arcade gun game.
For the time being, Sega hasn't said any word about world distribution in places like Dave and Buster's or other arcades of the like, but considering that most of the company's House of the Dead line-up is still highly popular in places like that, it just makes sense. We're likely to get the game sometime this summer, as it'll make a welcome return to form.
I just hope Sega considers adding some rumble-based features, like it had with its limited edition House of the Dead 4 arcade cabinet. Please?
