3 Gaming Characters That Could Beat God of War’s Kratos

Kratos from PlayStation’s God of War franchise is one of the most powerful characters to ever appear in a video game. Across his various adventures, Kratos has taken down the entire Greek pantheon, which includes the likes of Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades, just to name a few. If that wasn’t enough, Kratos went on to later establish himself in the Norse world, where he would (much to his own dismay) get the best of Thor, Baldur, and Odin, among others.

For as strong as Kratos is, though, there are other characters that have appeared across various video games that are even stronger and could likely beat Kratos if they needed to. While this list isn’t an extensive one, these are three gaming characters that could dominate Kratos in a battle if put to the test.

1. Doom Slayer

The Doom Slayer from id Software’s recent DOOM trilogy is perhaps underrated in terms of his strength. While he relies on weapons like the Super Shotgun to dispatch demons and others that stand in his way, this by no means should undersell his own raw power. The Doom Slayer is a borderline god that has died multiple times, but always comes back and ends up having the last laugh.

If I’m being honest, I think Kratos and the Doom Slayer are on par with one another in terms of power. Depending on the day, either of the legendary titans could come out on top if they were ever to do battle. Still, the fact that Doom Slayer could even take down Kratos at all is something that can’t be said for the majority of video game characters.

2. Arceus

Kratos might be an expert in taking down gods, but I fear he would have finally met his match with Arceus. The legendary Pokemon Arceus is more or less the “god” of Pokemon’s universe and is believed to be the one that catapulted its world into existence. Everything that is seen across the various Pokemon games has essentially stemmed from Arceus, as it is the one that created Dialga and Palkia, which in turn established time and space.

With that being said, it’s hard to see how Kratos would stand a chance if he ever were to take on Arceus. While Kratos could surely take down hundreds of different Pokemon that can be found in the Pokedex, Arceus is the one that he wouldn’t want to mess with. If he did, he would have finally found the first member of a pantheon that got the best of him.

3. Kirby

Don’t let Kirby’s cutesy, pink exterior fool you: deep down, he’s an absolute menace. The star of Nintendo’s Kirby franchise has appeared across dozens of different installments over the years, including appearances in other games like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. In many of those games, Kirby has been able to destroy planets or defeat intergalactic gods. His Warp Star also allows him to travel faster than the speed of light, which is downright absurd.

I won’t mince words: Kirby would embarrass Kratos. Not only could he surely obliterate the ex-God of War in his standard form, but he could also inhale Kratos and absorb his own powers. The same strength that Kratos has would then be turned against him, resulting in a defeat that Kratos would never see coming.
