Much as players had speculated, Ornn’s definitely from Frejlord, but you wouldn’t imagine it from a first glance at him. Apart from the icy vibe that most champs from the cold region give off, Ornn stands apart by being bright red, full of fire. While he’s been teased as a Vanguard that can rely on himself in battles, his reveal video proves that he’ll be a tremendous asset to teammates as well.

As players also might have expected, he’ll be using his blacksmithing abilities to help both himself and teammates. He can upgrade other teammates items, and while he brings his own forms of CC to the battles, he also has his own ways of shrugging off the enemy CC.

Ornn’s Story
Ornn’s been the subject of quite a bit of speculation since the champion was first teased in the Champion Roadmap for July, especially since he looks so out of place for a champ from Frejlord. He’s right at home in the mountains of the frigid region though, and he’s ready to put his skills to good use.
“More than most demi-gods, Ornn values his privacy,” the champion description reads. “Dwelling in solitude beneath an ancient volcano, he stokes bubbling cauldrons of molten stone to forge items of unsurpassed quality. Yet from these depths, Ornn senses trouble; divine beings are once again meddling in mortal affairs. During the upcoming wars, the Freljord—and the world—will need a good blacksmith.”
There’s still no word on who exactly his siblings are, but the champions used in the ability videos might help shed some light on that.
Passive: Living Forge & Master Craftsman
The most unique part of his kit, Ornn’s passive allows him to access a level of utility that’s not been seen before in League of Legends. Recalls are just a reason to heal up for Ornn since he won’t need to be recalling to spend his hard-earned gold with his passive ability.
- Living Forge: Ornn can spend gold to forge items for himself any time he’s out of combat. For convenience, suggested items appear in a special on-screen menu. Ornn can also open the shop manually to build any item.
- Master Craftsman: Ornn and his teammates have access to special upgrades for select items in the shop. Each player is limited to one of these upgrades.
Q: Volcanic Rupture
A damaging ability and CC all wrapped up in one, Ornn’s Volcanic Rupture smashes enemies with a fiery crack in the earth that slows them. Not long after that, a baby version of Trundle’s pillar appears that’ll block enemies from moving past it. A viable tool to block off points or catch up with enemies, this looks to be one of the pivotal abilities in Ornn’s kit.
- Volcanic Rupture: Ornn slams the ground, sending out a fissure that deals physical damage and slows enemies. After a small delay, a magma pillar forms at the target location, functioning like a tiny wall for a few seconds.
W: Bellows Breath
Dealing that sweet, sweet percent health damage, Ornn’s Bellows Breath introduces a new form of CC into League of Legends called Brittle. This move allows even more percent damage to be applied when hit with additional CC while extending the effects, an ability that’ll likely make Ornn a nightmare in teamfights.
- Bellows Breath: Ornn becomes unstoppable, shields himself, and belches out flames. These flames deal a portion of the enemy’s current health as magic damage. Enemies struck by the final gout of flame become Brittle. Ornn’s basic attacks knock back Brittle targets.
- Brittle: When Brittle, enemies suffer a portion of their maximum health as bonus damage when struck by immobilizing effects. Immobilizing effects also last longer when used on Brittle enemies.
E: Searing Charge
Say goodbye to Jarvan IV’s ultimate and Anivia’s wall, because like shopping at the base, player-made terrain is something that Ornn couldn’t care less about.
The ability gives him the chance to blast through any terrain that a player makes, but any enemies caught in his way will be on the receiving end of some similarly devastating effects. Like a Poppy pinning an enemy to the wall, Ornn benefits from being near terrain, knocking enemies up with an AOE effect if he collides with a wall during his charge.
- Searing Charge: Ornn charges, dealing damage to enemies he passes through. If Ornn collides with terrain while charging, the impact creates a shockwave that deals damage and knocks up enemies. This ability destroys player-created terrain.
R: Call of the Forge God
Calling forth an elemental ram to do his bidding, Ornn summons the fiery being that’ll then start making its way towards the champion. Like a remote-controlled Sion ultimate, Ornn calls the ult to his location and can even redirect it towards enemies, all while applying the Brittle effect to those in its way.
- Call of the Forge God: Ornn summons a massive fire elemental at a target location. It then travels toward him with increasing speed. Enemies run over by the elemental take magic damage and become Brittle.
- Ornn can recast this ability to charge forward. If he strikes the elemental with the charge, he’ll redirect it. The redirected elemental will then knock up all struck enemies, dealing the same damage as before and applying the Brittle effect
Ornn’s Tips & Tricks And A New Skin
In addition to all of his abilities listed previously, we’ve also gotten our first look at Ornn’s release skin, shown above, one that makes him look much more like those champions that typically come from Frejlord but with an electrified twist. Along with some cosmetics to look forward to, Riot has provided some tips and tricks to help flesh out Ornn’s unique gameplay:
- Ornn’s lane-staying power is second-to-none thanks to his ability to forge new items without returning to base. You’ll want to study up on early-game itemization options so you can quickly craft the right gear to counter your lane opponent.
- Since each of Ornn’s allies can build one of his unique item upgrades, Ornn’s teammates effectively have a higher gold cap than their opponents. Someone should tell Nasus there’s a new late-game god in town.
- Other champs who create terrain (Trundle, Azir) synergize extremely well with Ornn, since he can Searing Charge into champ-made structures to knock up enemies. Likewise, allies like Poppy and Vayne can pin opponents to Volcanic Rupture’s pillar.
