Despite being removed from the public eye by continuous bans from Riot Games, Tyler1 has maintained his presence on Twitch by taking part in other games and occasionally just talking to fans, all while bringing in hundreds of thousands of viewers. The Draven main was known for his “run it down mid” antics and constant flaming of teammates, but since his ban, he says that he’s changed for the better and is ready to return to his streamers.

Tyler1’s Unban Conditions

Tyler1 announced his potential unbanning during his streamย on Monday after teasing that he had some “big news” to reveal. That news was everything that his fans could’ve asked for, but it’s up to Tyler1 to make the change and come back.

“I talked to Riot, and they will reevaluate my ban on Jan. 1, 2018,” Tyler1 said on stream. “I will have to submit all account names I’ve played on the last month, and if my accounts come up clean, I will be free to play League publicly.”

For those who aren’t familiar with the circumstances of Tyler1’s ban status, he’s been permabanned from playing League of Legends in the public eye. He can always try and start a new account, but when others post evidence that it’s an alternate account for the streamer, it gets banned right away. Because of this, Tyler1 is asking viewers not to share his account names if they come across them since he has to play League in order to prove that he’s been reformedย  before he submits his accounts.

Riot Responds

When the news of Tyler1’s potential unbanning inevitably hit Reddit, Riot Cactopus stepped in to help clarify the conditions for Tyler1’s unbanning and mentioned how Riot doesn’t usually discuss bans publicly, but Tyler1 is an interesting exception.

“Top of FormGenerally speaking you can expect Rioters to be pretty quiet when it comes to discussing the details of any given player’s ban status going forward,” he began. “But I’d like to address some confusion I’m seeing about the difference between ‘account permabans’ and bans like the one Tyler1 has. A better name for ‘indefinite ban’ would be ‘identity level ban’ or ‘ID ban’ since it’s about the person.

“Regardless,ย we’re not changing our policy around permabanned accounts: Once an account is permabanned, it (almost always, except in rare cases) stays banned. That applies to accounts from ID banned people as well. Put simply: nobody is getting special treatment or getting any banned accounts unbanned.”

Riot Cactopus also said that they’re planning on being clearer with how their ID bans work.

“In the near future we’ll publish something more solid about how we’re changing our policy around ID bans,” he said. “I know there’s lots of questions about it here so we’ll do our best to clear all that up then.”
