WB is bringing the epic struggle between the Bright Lord, Sauron, and the peoples of Middle-earth to the small screen with Middle-earth: Shadow of War Mobile. What we thought would be a simple companion app or idle clicker of sorts has transformed into a full-fledged RPG with real-time combat. And you know what? It actually looks pretty great! The character models are giving us a wonderful PS2 vibe, and this looks like something that would be great to nibble on when away from your console. Check out the announcement trailer above.

“Middle-earth: Shadow of War mobile is a free-to-play real-time RPG continuing Talion’s journey through Mordor. The game features iconic characters from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, including Celebrimbor, Eltariel, Gimli, Boromir and many more fan-favorites.”

We don’t get any more information than what you see above, but we’re sure that a press release is around the corner. Judging by the gameplay, it looks like we can expect MMO-style combat. We imagine directing your character toward an enemy or boss to initiate an auto attack sequence, while you selectively fire off some special abilities or unique attacks with strategic timing. Exactly how taking over the strongholds will work or what kind of bonuses they’ll yield is unknown, and we’re not sure if playing the game on mobile will yield any bonuses in the console versions of the game.

If you know that this is something you’d be interested in, you can go ahead and pre-register for the game. This will ensure that you’re sent any updates when they’re available and get notified as soon as the game goes up on the Google Play or iTunes stores, respectively. The pre-registration site can be found right here. We’ll have more info very soon, so stay tuned!
