The Nintendo 64 controller was easily one of the most innovative of all time, popularizing analog control, rumble, and other features. That said, they’re pretty awkward to handle today – the three-prong design, tiny camera buttons, and the weird placement of the analog stick are all rather regrettable.

Well, thankfully, a group of N64 fans have decided to create their own modernized version of the controller. The N64 Retro Fighters controller has all the same basic buttons as the original, but the layout has been changed and extra features have been added. Check out the official description, below:
We changed some things to make the N64 controller more ergonomic. First we added a very comfortable modern analog stick. We also made the “C” buttons slightly larger for games that use the “C” buttons for more than just camera angles, i.e. Smash Brothers, etc. The shape of the controller is very comfortable and fits naturally in both hands with easy access to all the buttons.
We added two “Z” buttons and repositioned them right below the shoulder buttons, this allows to use either your right or left hand to use the “Z” button. A turbo button was added for games where you might need a little extra help. The D-pad features zero “deadzone” or sensitivity/response issues. Finally, we got rid of the 3 prong N64 controller design, a new modern and comfortable way to play your favorite N64 games!
The N64 Retro Fighters controller has already blown past its $13,000 Kickstarter funding goal, raising over $87,000 in less than four days. If you’d like to reserve your redesigned controller, you can do so right here.
