Dry those tears, Nintendo fans, and still your fingers; no need to write those hate posts on your blog anymore, because Nintendo just announced that it will be bringing the NES Classic Edition next year. Furthermore, Nintendo assured us in an official press release that it would be producing more than enough SNES Classic Editions to meet the incredible (and still rising) demand. They didn’t stop there. Nintendo also confirmed that it would continue to produce the SNES Classic well into 2018, despite previously stating that it would cease production at the end of the year.

SNES Classic Won’t Be in Short Supply

“Due to incredible demand for the upcoming Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system,” the press release states, “Nintendo plans to ship the retro-inspired product into 2018. Originally, shipments were announced to cease at the end of this calendar year.

“In addition, more units of Super NES Classic Edition will ship on its Sept. 29 launch day in the U.S. than were shipped of NES Classic Edition all last year, with subsequent shipments arriving in stores regularly. Fans have shown their unbridled enthusiasm for these Classic Edition systems, so Nintendo is working to put many more of them on store shelves.”

There it is in writing, folks. If Nintendo really is all about creating false scarcity, then you finally have a damning document to point back to if the holidays come and go, and the SNES Classic is nowhere to be found. Could this still sell out? Yes, because it’s a wildly popular item, but Nintendo doesn’t seem to think that you’ll have any issues finding one eventually.

And for those who never got an NES Classic Edition

And what about those of us still yearning for the glory days of 8-bit sprites? We still want to play Super Mario Bros. and Kirby’s Adventure on the big screen! Are we out of luck? Nintendo says no!

“Next summer, Nintendo will also bring back the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system with new shipments. More information about the timing of the return of NES Classic Edition will be announced in the future. NES Classic Edition features 30 classic NES games such as the original Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda and Donkey Kong.”

This is great news. No doubt the conspiracy theorist will submit that Nintendo drummed up all of this hype and demand by intentionally making both of these consoles seem hard to get in the first place, and that this morning’s press release was planned from the very beginning. That’s fine; we don’t care. We’re just happy that we’ll be able to snag both of these little guys without spending obscene amounts of money!

So how about it? Now that you know you won’t have to pay your uncle Rex who works at Nintendo a thousand dollars to smuggle these consoles out of Nintendo headquarters, are you looking forward to picking them up for yourself? Is this the news you’ve been waiting for?

Are you picking both up?
