Earlier this month, Microsoft revealed that the hit multiplayer game PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, which has since gone on to sell four million copies since its release, would be making its way to Xbox One later this year. With that, there are a lot of people wondering if its multiplayer will be interconnected, with full cross-platform support. There's good news on that front – the team is definitely considering it.

The development team noted that they have "plans and thoughts about other platforms" with the game, and that includes potential cross-play. For now, though, obviously the PC version is getting focus, as well as the forthcoming Xbox One edition.

Chang Han Kim, executive producer with Playerunknown's Battlegrounds, recently spoke with VG247 about the idea of cross-play. "Cross-network play between the PC and the console is definitely something we want to do down the road, and we don't anticipate we'll have any technical issues with that."

That said, there are concerns. "But…when you consider the competitive side of the game, I do feel that there's a balance issue between controllers and keyboard and mouse. That's what's making it difficult for us to do right away. If we're going to allow players to use controllers, we need to have the aim assist added in and things like that. We're not going to be supporting it right away, but it's something we'd like to look into later."

Of course, the team has ample time to consider those options, since Battlegrounds is still in development on Xbox One. There have been talks about giving that console support for mouse and keyboard in the past, though Microsoft has been kinda mum when it comes to official confirmation for their support. But the possibility is always there for players that prefer it. We'll see what the company may have in mind down the road.

That said, players are still excited to see Battlegrounds pop up on another platform, glitches and all. The original game has had no trouble being a phenomenon, so it should likely continue having that energy into the Xbox One's release later this year.

In the meantime, the original Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is available now on PC.
