Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the hottest games going right now, blending in the sheer excitement of multiplayer action with strategic thinking that forces you to stay out of the wide open, lest someone pick you off like no one’s business.

But now, the game’s about to get some cool vanity items based on a cult classic from Japanese cinema – and you’ll soon be able to deck out your character in said goods.
According to Polygon, Battlegrounds will be getting a number of items inspired by the classic Battle Royale, in which a bunch of unwitting Japanese students are thrown into a merciless battle of life and death. With the new crates that will be offered in the game starting August 3rd, players will be able to pick up items inspired by the film, on top of the clothes that are already available in the game, such as the various shirts and pants, as well as gas masks. You can check out a gallery of the outfits attached to this article.
These creates include the Wanderer Crate, the Survivor Crate and the Gamescom Invitational Crate. The first two crates will be free of charge, while the third can be unlocked with a key for $2.50. Sales from that third crate will go towards funding a forthcoming in-person tournament for the game, which will likely take place at Gamescom next month.
In a recent post, the developers at Bluehole noted that “The third crate will have the most diverse pool of themed clothing. … Once Gamescom is complete, on August 27th, the Gamescom Invitational Crate will be no longer available and removed from the game. We will then return to the free-to-open system. The Gamescom Invitational Crate, Wanderer Crate and Survivor Crate will be tradeable on the Steam Community Market going forward. Keys for a Gamescom Invitational Crate purchased on the Steam Community Market will still be available to purchase in-game.”
Bluehole will be working with ESL on the tournament, which will bring together some of the best players in Germany. It’s expected to kick off on August 23rd, and will be streamed live on the company’s various social pages. More details will be coming soon.
So if you’re a fan of Battle Royale – or you just need some great duds for your character – here’s your chance to pick it up!
