A free PlayStation Plus game recently made available has a save wiping issue, according to some subscribers. The game in question was released last month, and the moment it was, it was free with PlayStation Plus. While it is common for Xbox Game Pass to have day one games — in fact, this game was also available via Xbox Game Pass at launch — it’s not common for PlayStation Plus subscribers to get day one games, but this is exactly what those at the Extra and Premium tiers got. That said, while many PlayStation Plus subscribers have seemingly been checking out the game, others are warning against doing this.

The game in question is The Rogue Prince of Persia, a 2D side-scroller roguelite released by Evil Empire and Ubisoft back on August 20 after about a year in early access. And as it’s 81 on Metacritic suggests, it is pretty good. How many copies it sold, we do not know, but it likely made its money — and possibly more — via these PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass deals. Whatever the case, while many are checking out the Ubisoft game, some of these same players are warning others not to.
“Consider Holding Off”
The top post on the PlayStation Plus Reddit page over the last 24 hours is a post from a user noting that while they are loving the game, they suggest holding off until an issue with saves is fixed.
“Consider holding off on Rogue Prince of Persia,” reads the title of the post. “I love this game enough to start over when my save file got wiped the first time. But I don’t know if I want to start over again now that it’s been wiped a second time in less than 24 hours. The game uses an autosave system and uploads your save data to the cloud. I always made sure to close the app after it auto-saved. Uploading my cloud save data to the console still left me with a blank save file.”
It is unclear if this is a consistent problem or one that only triggers sometimes. Other players have reported the same issue, though, so it is not that uncommon if it’s the latter.
Elsewhere in the comments, one user makes note of a “game-breaking bug” where “everybody is supposed to meet at a certain location,” but they all end up standing around, and the quest freezes up. Thankfully, this can be fixed by starting the quest again at the bonfire. This is not ideal, but a solution.
The good news is that this can all be fixed with a patch, and only a minority of players are experiencing this issue. Still, it may be worth waiting until this issue is not just fixed, but fixed for a few weeks to ensure said fix is completely effective. That said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think.
