Pokemon Go’s Solstice Event is causing thousands of Fire and Ice-Type Pokemon to spawn around the globe. Some of these Pokemon are usually quite rare, which means that now is the time to go out and finally catch that Pokemon missing from your PokeDex.

Judging a Pokemon’s rarity in Pokemon Go is often quite hard, as Pokemon tend to spawn differently in different parts of the globe. What’s rare for a Pokemon Go player in Ohio isn’t rare for a player in London and vice versa. However, events like this one bring a little consistency, as the rarity for Event Pokemon tend to be even just about everywhere you go.
Now that the event has been out for a few days, we’ve compiled a very basic rarity chart to help players out for the weekend. If you’re going to be out hunting for Pokemon, be sure to keep an eye out for these common (and not so common) Pokemon!
Common
Common Pokemon During the Event: Cyndaquil, Vulpix, Growlithe, Shellder, Swinub, Ponyta
These six Pokemonย are springing up on just about every street corner as a part ofย Pokemonย Go‘s new event.ย Shellderย and Swinubย are pretty common normal circumstances, at least for those who live close to anything close to a body of water, but the Fire-Type Pokemonย are typically a little harder to find in most regions.
The two biggest prizes in this group are Cyndaquilย and Growlithe. Cyndaquilย is a Starter Pokemon, so they’re a bit rarer and harder to catch than other Basic Pokemon. You’ll need to catch 32 Cyndaquilย in order to get enough Candies to evolve oneย all the way to Typhlosion….or just 16 Cyndaquilย if you use Pinapย Berries.ย
Growlitheย is a bit more common than Cyndquil, but players should still stock up on this furry dog Pokemon, as its evolution Arcanineย is currently the second strongest Fire-Type Pokemonย in the game. ย
One other note: it’s unclear whether Eeveeย is part of the Solstice Event or not, since it does evolve into the Fire-Type Pokemonย Flareon. Eeveeย is a relatively common Pokemonย under normal circumstances and we’ve continue to see it spawn around town at about the same rate as it did during non-event season.
Uncommon
Uncommon Pokemon During the Event:ย Charmander, Sneasel, Houndour, Seel
You shouldn’t have any problem finding these four Pokemonย during the event, although they’re not popping up at quite rare as the common Pokemonย in our tier. For instance, we’ve seen about 15 Houndourย in one areaย during the event compared to around 30 Cyndaquil.
The biggest surprise on this list is Charmander, which is arguably the most popular Pokemonย included in the event.ย Pokemonย Goย has treated the Starter Pokemonย strangely during this and other events recently. Squirtle was a lot more common than Totodile during the Water Festival, both Bulbasaur and Chikorita appeared at the same rate in the Grass Event, and now Charmanderย is spawning less frequently than Cyndaquil. Luckily, a lot of players already had an opportunity to catch plenty of Charmanderย during the New Year’s event at the start of the year.
Sneaselย and Seelย were both common in our area, so it’s hard to tell just how much more frequently they’re spawning compared to usual. They’re not popping up at the same rate as the common Pokemon, so we feel comfortable putting them on the middle tier.ย
Rare
Rare Pokemon During the Event:ย Jynx, Lapras, Magmar
Three Pokemonย we haven’t seen very much during the event are Lapras, Jynx, and Magmar. Both Magmarย andย Laprasย is usually rare under normal circumstances, so it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that these two Pokemonย are both still hard to find. We can say that we’ve spotted both these Pokemonย in the wild at least once during the event, so they’re both out there,ย
Jynxย is a bit of a surpriseย as it’s usually a somewhat common Pokemonย in many regions. However, Jynxย has all but disappearedย from many people’s radars since the event started. Maybe it’s because Jynxย is technically the second strongest Ice-Type Pokemonย available in the game?ย
Evolutions
Evolved Pokemonย in the Event:ย Charmeleon, Charizard, Quilava, Typhlosion, Piloswine, Houndoom, Flareon, Arcanine, Ninetales, Cloyster,ย Houndoom, Dewgong, Flareon
To be honest, we’ve yet to see any Evolved Pokemon appear on our radar during this week’s event. That doesn’t mean that they’re not out there, just that they’re super rare in comparison to the other Pokemon spawning. We’ve seen otherย Pokemonย Goย players report seeing at least a few of these Pokemonย during their travels through their respective neighborhood.
We can’t definitively say whether any of these Pokemonย spawn more frequently than the others, which is why we’re lumping them together on the same list.ย
