Retro Shmup Hyper Sentinel Gets a New Nintendo Switch Trailer

A brand new trailer just blasted in straight from the 8-bit era for the the classically inspired shoot ’em up Hyper Sentinel. This was a crowd-funded indie darling that retro game lovers haven’t been able to take their eyes off of. The game will be coming soon to Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, Steam, and mobile. Check out the brand new trailer above.

From the original Kickstarter page: “Hyper Sentinel is a love letter to old-school arcade action and the computer shoot ’em ups of the 1980s, but supercharged with beautiful 4K graphics, awesome power-ups, epic boss battles and a heart-pumping SID style soundtrack all running at a blistering 60 frames-per-second!” It’s described as a “blistering” side-scrolling shmup, and we have to say, blistering is a fitting word to describe the speed of play here. We have no idea what was happening for most of that trailer.

The studio behind Hyper Sentinel is developing under the name Four5Six Pixel, and has a few veterans on board, including Rob Hewson, previously Game Director at TT Fusion on handheld LEGO games (LEGO The Lord of the Rings, LEGO Legends of Chima, LEGO The Hobbit, LEGO Batman 3, LEGO Jurassic World, LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and John Ogden, veteran technical lead (Hydrophobia, Pool Nation XBLA, the World Snooker Championship series).

If this is really revving your gears and you don’t fancy waiting an undisclosed period of time to get your hands on it, then you there are a few shmups or bullet-hell type games on the Nintendo Switch already that may whet your appetite. Graceful Explosion Machine is one that should delight you for dozens of hours, and you also have the NeoGeo classic Blazing Star if you’re wanting a more classic aesthetic.

As soon as we learn more about Hyper Sentinel or its release date, we’ll let you know!
