Marvel’s Venom Game Rumor Reveals Surprising Protagonist, Villain, and More

A bunch of new details for the long-rumored Venom game in development at Insomniac Games have surfaced online. Back in 2023, developer Insomniac Games suffered a hack that resulted in a bunch of Marvel projects being leaked online, including ones that hadn’t been announced. Some of these were expected like Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, but others were a bit of a surprise such as an X-Men game in the 2030s. It suggests a big future for Marvel games with Insomniac, but we still don’t really know all that much about it, officially speaking. With all of that said, one project from this leak raised a lot of eyebrows.

At the time, it was revealed that a Venom game was also in the works, serving as a spin-off to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It was expected to be an interstitial title similar to Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, meaning it would be a bit smaller in scope, but get fans a new game much faster. Venom was briefly playable in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and was seen as a highlight of the game, but he wasn’t in the game for as long as fans had hoped. Not only that, but Harry Osborn was freed from the symbiote, so fans have wondered what a Venom game would even look like.

A new report from MP1st gives us our first real details on the Venom game, but of course, you should take it with a grain of salt. The website revealed that Marvel’s Venom (tentatively titled) is in active development still and could be released sometime in 2027, though it was once slated for a 2025 release. As for what the game will be, players will reportedly take control of Eddie Brock, one of the Peter Parker’s arch-enemies who is largely best known for taking on the Venom mantle. Others like Flash Thompson have also been Venom, but Brock is the character fans is the original version of the gooey monster.

Cletus Kasady will also reportedly return after having been teased in a Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 side quest which set up Carnage. He will likely be the main villain in the story, which should lead to an exciting clash. The report also mentions that anti-venom is part of the Venom game, but notes that it’s not under the control of Peter Parker. Instead, Brock himself will control it and it will look as monstrous as the normal Venom persona. It’s possible this will allow players to choose the morality of Venom and allow him to be fully evil or more of an anti-hero.

Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens. The report also teased some details on Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, so it’s possible the Venom game could set up the third mainline Spidey title like Miles Morales did.
