After a seven-year absence, the Saw series returns to theaters this Friday with Jigsaw. The sequel promises plenty of torturous traps designed to punish victims who don’t value their lives, a running theme throughout the saga.

The first film, which debuted back in 2004, introduced audiences to John Kramer (Tobin Bell), a man with a terminal illness hoping to convince people to take stock of their lives and the decisions they’ve made that potentially hurt them and those they love. To do this, Kramer, who earned the moniker “Jigsaw,” would place his victims in an elaborate trap that would either result in certain death or force the victim to sacrifice part of their body.
Jigsaw might’ve become known as a “serial killer,” but it was always the machinations of his traps that resulted in someone’s death, as he always allowed for a way to have his puzzle solved. Unfortunately, not all of his victims made their sacrifices in time, resulting in a variety of deaths and bloodshed.
