Earlier this month, a poster for Season 3 of Ash vs. Evil Dead debuted that featured Ash (Bruce Campbell) spreading open the jaws of a massive demon. While many thought this was merely an artistic representation of the series, Campbell revealed his character will actually wage war with a 60-foot-tall Deadite.

***WARNING: Possible spoilers below for Ash vs. Evil Dead***

"It's the big one, the mother of all demons," Campbell shared with Bloody Disgusting. "That's what Ash is fighting with the tank, so it ends up that Ash is finally going to fulfill his destiny. He has to own up to who he is – if he's the chosen one."

In the original films, evil spirits inhabited humans, presenting our heroes with manageable foes. In Ash vs. Evil Dead, our hero's bouts with evil got much more dangerous, bringing to life all manner of monstrous creationcreation.

The actor went on to describe how the upcoming season will fulfill what started decades ago in The Evil Dead and was elaborated in the third film, Army of Darkness.

"[Evil Dead director] Sam [Raimi]'s theory has always been that every millennia, the evil rises to test the mettle of the average man, not the special man, the average man," Campbell described. "It's a little biblical because there's some story in the Bible, Evil's like, 'Let's have Evil fight Good. You bring me your best man, I'll give you our best man, let's duke it out and see who wins.' On the good side, they're like, 'I'm just gonna send you a schmoe, because we're so confident in Good that even a schmoe can take you guys out.' So that's why Ash is essentially the Chosen One, he has no skills, zero skills, he's not Navy Seal or former FBI."

Based on his description of the upcoming season, this could be the final test of Ash's heroism, possibly concluding the hero's journey. The first two seasons of the show aired in the fall, which was prime time for horror, but the series had to compete in a crowded landscape. Starz changed the show's schedule to February, in hopes that its viewership will increase.

Ash vs. Evil Dead Season 3 premieres Sunday, February 25 at 9:00 PM ET on Starz.
