These days, there are a lot of people vying for Anna Kendrick to play the one and only Squirrel Girl. The actress herself pitched the idea, saying earlier this year she could play someone who was “half squirrel” if called to. Director Edgar Wright then threw in his support when he told Marvel’s honchos to put her in a Squirrel Girl film. And, now, the mighty Russo Brothers are also saying they’d love to see Anna take on the role.
In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Joe Russo said, “It would be perfect casting, and we’re huge Anna Kendrick fans.” And, so far, fans agree with the brother’s statement. The Internet has been flooded with fan art depicting Anna as Squirrel Girl. A well-known fandom artist on Twitter, BossLogic, even photoshopped an image of the actress to show everyone what Anna might look like as the heroine. And, c’mon, you’ve got to admit she looks pretty awesome.

Still, the Russo Brothers did hedge their support in one way by stressing Squirrel Girl won’t be making an appearance in their upcoming film, Avengers: Infinity War. The pair said their “hands [are] full trying to tell the story we have with our preexisting characters.”
“Anthony would probably die from exhaustion if we introduced another character,” Joe joked before his brother spoke up. “That’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”
Wait, what? We could be getting a new character? Maybe one who’ll be played by none other than Brie Larson? Rumors have been swirling for awhile now that Larson’s Captain Marvel might make her big screen debut in the Avengers flick ahead of her standalone film. But, of course, the Russo Brothers weren’t keen on telling fans whether those stories were true.
“That’s one we’re going to have to plead the fifth on,” Anthony said. The brothers also refused to confirm how much progress they’ve made with Infinity War’s line-up as they previously revealed they were picking out roles from a list of 65 characters. Joe teased fans somewhat, saying, “Yeah, it’s down to 66. Remember Dr. Fine, [the S.H.I.E.L.D. surgeon] from Winter Soldier? He’s off the board. Wanted too much money.”
No doubt, casting Anna to play Squirrel Girl would cost a pretty penny, but fans of the obscure heroine would surely love to see the reference. As fans, though, let’s not put all our nuts in that basket though. For now, it seems like Anna will need a few more endorsements before she officially lands the coveted role.
