Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is currently on winter break after a shocking midseason finale episode, "The Laws of Inferno Dynamics."
The digital series Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: Slingshot was released to help fill in the gap, but fans are eager to know what's next for the SHIELD team.
Luckily, those fans only have two more weeks to wait until Marvel's Agents of SHIELD returns to ABC on Jan. 10. When the show returns, it will be rechristened Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: LMD and will dive into a new story arc focusing on Aida replacing Agent May with an identical Life Model Decoy.
There are still plenty of mysterious left unsolved from the first half of Agents of SHIELD Season 4. Here are five big questions that Marvel's Agents of SHIELD: LMD needs to answer.
What Happened To Ghost Rider And Eli Morrow?
The debut of Gabriel Luna as Robbie Reyes, aka Ghost Rider, was a driving force for the first half of Agents of SHIELD Season 4.
Robbie Reyes made a valiant sacrifice to defeat his power mad Uncle, Eli Morrow, in the midseason finale, disappearing along with the villain.
However, we feel like this can't be the end of Robbie Reyes story. There are just too many lingering plot threads, like what will happen to his brother, Gabe, the ramifications of Ghost Rider briefly possessing Mack, and Robbie's relationship with Daisy.
Once Robbie Reyes comes back, we hope to find out where exactly he and Morrow went, and what role they have left to play in the saga of the Darkhold.
What Is The Truth About Jeffrey Mace And The United Nations Bombing?
Another major change to Marvel's Agents of SHIELD in the first half of Season 4 was Jeffrey Mace taking over a the position of director of SHIELD from Phil Coulson.
Mace was recommended for the job because Coulson believed someone with powers should lead the organization into its new, Inhuman-centric role. With Captain America off the grid after the events of Captain America: Civil War, and Daisy Johnson on the run as the rogue vigilante Quake, the job fell to Mace, who is an Inhuman himself.
Mace came to Coulson's attention because he was at the United Nations building bombing that took place during Captain America: Civil War and stepped up to help save civilians during the chaos. Or, at least that's what everyone has been led to believe.
The anti-Inhuman Senator Ellen Nadeer seems to know something about Jeffrey Mace's action during the UN bombing that Mace has so far kept secret. That information needs to come to light in the second half of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Season 4.
What Is Going On With AIDA?
Marvel's Agents of SHIELD introduced a very important part of Marvel Comics lore in the first half of Season 4.
Doctor Holden Radcliffe created AIDA, the first every Life Model Decoy. Life Model Decoys, or LMDs, have been used for a variety of purposes, both heroic and nefarious, throughout Marvel Comics history.
Aida was helpful enough at first, helping to save May's life and bring Robbie, Coulson, and Fitz back from between dimensions. However, at some point Aida started having ideas of her own and was shown to have replaced Agent May with an LMD of her own creation in the midseason finale.
The problem with AIDA seemed to begin after she read the entire text of the Darkhold in order to save Reyes, Coulson, and Fitz. Could doing so have caused her to become by Chthon, the demonic elder god who is responsible for the knowledge possessed by the Darkhold?
Senator Nadeer, Hellfire, And The Watchdogs?
Daisy Johnson wasn't just taking a vacation when she defected from SHIELD. As the vigilante called Quake, Daisy was doing her best to fight back the anti-Inhuman terrorist group called the Watchdogs, who picked up a mysterious benefactor at some point.
The first half of Marvel's Agents of SHIELD Season 4 revealed that mysterious benefactor to be Senator Nadeer, the same senator who is blackmailing Director Mace. Quake also discovered that Hellfire, an Inhuman she first encounter in Agents of SHIELD Season 3, has been aiding the Watchdogs.
The Watchdogs subplot got pushed aside when the Ghost Rider/Darkhold/Eli Morrow plot took off, but it's a lingering thread that needs to be addressed in the remainder of Season 4.
Who Is The Mysterious Inhuman?
As mentioned, Senator Nadeer has used whatever secret Director Mace is hiding to blackmail the head of SHIELD.
Part of her demands was the Agent Jemma Simmons be sent to a secret location for a secret purpose.
When Simmons arrived at the location, she found an Inhuman who was still undergoing Terrigenesis after seven months. Simmons managed to help the Inhuman to begin emerging from his cocoon but was quickly whisked away thereafter.
So who is this mysterious Inhuman who took so long to come out of his shell? Other hints point to him being Senator Nadeer's brother, but even if we know who he is, we still need to know why he took so long to hatch and why he was worth mentioning in the narrative of SHIELD's fourth season. Could he possible connect Agents of SHIELD to the upcoming Marvel The Inhumans TV series?
