The first is Emma Frost. Emma first joined the X-Men when she began teaching at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters and was welcomed to the team despite her past with the Hellfire Club. She fell in love with Cyclops and became part of Cyclops’ mutant revolutionaries following the events of Avengers vs. X-Men.

In the Death of X and Inhumans vs. X-Men miniseries, it was revealed that Emma Frost had secretly orchestrated the conflict between Inhumans and mutants as a kind of deranged salute to Cyclops, who was one of the first fatalities of the M-Pox disease the terrigen mist caused in mutants. When it seemed the game was over, she revealed herself and used a new brand of Inhuman-hunting Sentinels to murder hundreds of Inhumans.

Emma managed to escape from the site of the conflict and was seen going full supervillain with a new helmet and costume. It was previously revealed that Emma will lead a faction of X-Men against Captain America during Secret Empire: United. The young X-Men of the X-Men Blue team are also going to fighting against Hydra, but the exact relationship between them and Emma is unknown, especially since young Cyclops and the team’s new mentor, Magneto, are both still particularly eager to see Emma pay for what she did.

The second returning mutant is Polaris, Lorna Dane, the mutant mistress of magnetism and daughter of Magneto. Polaris was last seen during the “Last Days” storyline of the Magneto solo series, which was written by X-Men Blue writer Cullen Bunn and led into the Secret Wars event.

During that Story, Polaris believed that she was teaming up with her father in order to try to stop the final incursion from destroying Earth. It turned out that Magneto only sought to use his daughter and to drain her magnetic power to further fuel his own in a last-ditch attempt to stop the event himself. He failed, and the Marvel universe was destroyed and reborn anew and Polaris hasn’t been seen since.

X-Men Blue will also soon be welcoming another mutant to the book. That mutant is Jimmy Hudson, the son of the Wolverine from the Ultimate Marvel universe who landed in the main Marvel universe following Secret Wars.

The X-Men Blue team will join the fight against Hydra in X-Men Blue #7 in July. Emma Frost returns in X-Men Blue #8, also shipping July. Polaris returns in X-Men Blue #9, on sale in August.
