The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its elaborate costumes, and Spider-Man: Homecoming continued that legacy with its own super suit. Tom Holland’s red-and-blue costume has already become a favorite with fans, but it was not the only design Marvel Studios toyed around with. Thanks to some new concept art, fans have learned Spider-Man could have dawned another superior suit in the movie.

Over on Twitter, Ryan Meinerding sent the Marvel fandom into a frenzy when he released some of his concept art for Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Head of Visual released unused artwork he did for the hero, and it is closely pulled from Dan Slott’s Superior Spider-Man run.
“I did a lot of designs for the new #SpiderManHomecoming suit. Here’s an unused one based on #superiorspiderman by @DanSlott and @RyanStegman,” the artist posted.
The suit, which can be seen below, ditched Spider-Man’s traditional colors for something a little darker. The black-and-red suit still features the character’s web patterns, but its lower-half if streamlined with black fabric.
It’s not surprising to hear Marvel Studios chose to pass on this Spider-Man suit, but fans can still enjoy its sleek look. Spider-Man: Homecoming is meant to be Peter Parker’s full-blown introduction to the MCU, so it would not make sense to blow off his most iconic suit at first. The Superior Spider-Man is a well-known arc with comic readers, but its popularity cannot overshadow the hero’s most recognizable looks.
For those of you unfamiliar with The Superior Spider-Man, the series was written by Dan Slott and published between January 2013 and June 2014. The series follows Otto Octavius after the villain is ‘revived’ and takes over Peter Parker’s body as a vessel after killing the hero. Stuck in Peter’s body, Otto becomes gradually affected by the other’s memories, and Doctor Octopus ultimately decides to become a superior Spider-Man than Peter ever could be.
